Spiders

For now, Spiders by System of a Down is my favourite piece of music - an alternative rock.

I first heard it over an animation student using the music for his work "Darkened", really love it. I like the visuals, camera angles employ in the film. The story gives a surprise element- giving a false illusion.

I interpret the creatures were the beasts in the character. He thought he might have killed the girl, but in reality, it was the beast in him that killed himself and the girl. This is the link of the animation.

The song also reminds me of the robotic "spiders" in Minority Report that can search a building in minutes by performing a retinal scan on everyone, acting like surveillance devices and agents.

Lyrics as follows :
Spiders
The piercing radiant moon,
The storming of poor June,
All the life running through her hair,
Approaching guiding light,
Our shallow years in fright,
Dreams are made winding through my head,
Through my head,
Before you know, Awake,
Your lives are open wide,
The V-chip gives them sight,
All the life running through her hair
,
The spiders all in tune,
The evening of the moon,
Dreams are made winding through my head,
Through my head,Before you know,
Awake
(SOLO)
Through my head,Before you know,
Before you know I will be waiting all awake,
Dreams are made winding through her hair,
Dreams are made winding through her hair.

The music is haunting, ominous, and sad.

A spider in this song is a symbol for computer chips (the V-chip). The chip on the cover of the single looks vaguely similar to a spider (small, black, many legs).

"Your dreams are no longer sacred, as they are subject to a process known as remote viewing." (Your lives are open wide. The V-chip gives them sight...Of all the life running through her hair).

Spiders could be expressing fears that the government is using modern technology to watch the activities of its citizens.

Note : V-chip is a generic term used for a feature of television receivers allowing the blocking of programs based on their ratings category. It is intended for use by parents to manage their children's television viewing.

Train

Taking the train with my eyes close, I can feel the rays of light when the train gets out of the tunnel.
Somehow the journey reminds me of a short story written by E M Forster, "The Machine Stops"- whereby Vashti was taking the air-ship to visit her son. In the story, Vashti described her journey as waste of time and no interesting ideas coming to her mind. For me. I am taking a train to work, journey seems endless. However, at least for this morning, I could process my mind and not dozing off.

Random thoughts appear in my mind - a song came into my mind, "What if God was one of us? Just a stranger on the bus trying to make his way home"....Hmm, we are all human.

Miyazaki is Romantic

Just finished watching Howl's Moving Castle, I felt Miyazaki is a romantic director. He has the protagonist Sophie walking & flying in the sky, assisted by wizard Howl. Read somewhere, Miyazaki ever mentioned he would like to cheer a crying boy by offering him a ride in his car if he had the extra time. Wish we all have the time to stop and smell a flower.

Loved the MTV played at Topshop

Not only I like the fashion presented at Topshop, I love the MTV played at Topshop as well, esp the one at Orchard branch. It provides an escaping outlet for my mind and soul. :D
